Wood Packaging Requirements Revised Directive A new target date for strict enforcement has been set for September 16, 2005. Starting on this date, wood packaging materials found to be non-compliant may be ordered returned to origin. Costs incurred in returning the wood packaging materials to origin are the responsibility of the person or entity in care and control of the non-compliant wood packaging materials at the time of entry to Canada (including port or berthing facilities receiving untreated dunnage). Please ensure that you are aware of the implications and regulations. The Freight Carriers Association of Canada recommends a 5.8% increase for May 2005 due to significant changes and unusual increases in non-fuel related costs over the last three years. New Group Purchasing Plan Diane Grandy, chair of the BPC Freight and Distribution Committee, has just announced that a new Group Purchasing Plan Corrugation has been put in place for BPC members. A group of eight association member companies participated in the process, analysis and decision making to determine our recommendation for the plan. The plan will initially start in the greater Toronto area. *A nominal annual membership fee for the BPC Purchasing Group will be required in order to qualify for the special rates.
