Group Benefit Plan

Associations that are Members or Associate Members of the Book and Periodical Council may participate in the Group Benefit Plan for their staff. Having a benefits plan helps your Association recruit and retain staff. It also provides excellent coverage and protection for your employees.

The Book and Periodical Council Plan provides comprehensive benefits from Great-West Life. Through the plan, employees are able to claim for health, dental, vision-care costs for themselves, their spouses, and their dependents. The plan also insures the employee for long-term disability and death and dismemberment.

The current average monthly cost of the plan is in the range of $120 per single employee to $290 for an employee requiring family coverage. The cost of the plan may be shared by the employer and employee, provided that the employer (Association) contributes at least 50% of the cost. The long-term disability costs are based on salary and, for tax reasons, are paid solely by the employee; the current monthly cost ranges from $10 to $50.

The plan is renewed annually. Each year the costs of the plan are reviewed annually by PAL Benefits and periodically put out to the market to ensure best coverage and cost.

The plan is administered for the book and periodical community by the Book and Periodical Council. A small monthly administrative fee is charged to cover bookkeeping costs of plan administration. Annual administrative cost per employee is under $50.

To participate in the plan your association must be a member of the Book and Periodical Council. National associations representing a major sector of the book and periodical community join the Book and Periodical Council as Full Members. The annual fee is based on the budget of your association and falls within a $350 to $3,200 range. Associations representing a region or a smaller sector within the book and periodical community join as Associate Members and pay $225 per year. Companies may participate in the Book and Periodical Council as Affiliates for an annual cost of $250.
