About the BPCAdministrationUnder the direction of the Board, which is appointed by member associations, and Officers elected from among senior members of the book and periodical industry, the Book and Periodical Council secretariat conducts the day to day administration of the Council. The ongoing work of the Council is conducted through two standing Committees the Freedom of Expression Committee (see www.freedomtoread.ca) and the Freight Committee to which each member organization is entitled to appoint representatives. As circumstances require, Council charges industry appointed Task Forces with the responsibility of addressing specific areas of wide concern. Task Forces make recommendations for action. Among these initiatives have been a Task Force to examine and make recommendations concerning a CD-ROM reference product for Canadian titles, a Task Force with the mandate to alert the book and periodical industry to the need to preserve our printed heritage by the use of permanent paper in publications, a Task Force to develop voluntary industry performance guidelines and a Task Force on publishing for the visually impaired.
